MS Finance - Batch of 2026

Overwhelming but worthwhile.
Tips: Everything here moves at a fast pace, and the feeling of the East Coast is entirely different from the West Coast. It is a very popular city to pursue higher education, so you'll find students from all colleges. The cost of living is very high, and that is mainly because of the ren,t so keep that in mind.

The city is expensive but student-friendly.
Tips: You'll have a great time here so don't be nervous. Make the most of your time here attend classes to truly learn and pursue any extracurricular activities that interest you. While Boston is an expensive city it's also very student friendly. People are friendly and they love to socialise a lot. Try to be friendly and connect with people. I am quite satisfied with my experiences.

Be fully prepared before joining, as professors expect you to be more independent.
Tips: I had a great time here and that's largely because I was mentally prepared and came with a decent scholarship. Otherwise expenses can really add up. The people here are individualistic, and professors expect you to be more independent, which was something I struggled with. I recommend being open to collaborations and projects as they stand out more than your GPA.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration):

Great education and faculty.
Tips: I have seen changes in myself after moving here. The culture shock wasn't intense, but it was present, and it took me some time to get used to the abruptness and demeanour of the locals, as they can be a lot more straightforward than expected. Living here is expensive, so if you get an opportunity to work on campus, you should definitely take advantage of it.

There's a hackathon almost every other week to keep our skills sharp.
Tips: There are tons of events on campus, and there's a hackathon almost every other week to keep my skills sharp. It's easy to make connections with people from other majors because of these events, and it's a great way to make friends, too. Of course, not everything is perfect. One of the first things that really hit me was the weather and how cold it can get, so you'd better come prepared. Plus, the campus Wi-Fi is a bit unreliable, so make sure you're ahead of your work so you don't get caught when it inevitably goes out.

Great learning environment for students.
Tips: This university has really managed to teach me what is necessary to learn and has exceeded my expectations in various ways. The curriculum is pretty flexible, and so are the professors here. I also received a merit-based scholarship for 8,500 USD, which made things easier. My only annoyance is that the bus system becomes rather unreliable in the winter because of the snow.

UMass is a fun university
Tips: I think students should know how to communicate because it's the most important thing that I came across. I didn't know anything about scholarships but Shiksha helped me with that. On a scale 1 to 10, I'll rate 8 for the university, course and country I'll rate 6 because of their health care system.
Likes (Indian Food): There are several Indian restaurants in Boston. But I prefer cooking at home as it is healthy and pocket-friendly. There are lots of Indian grocery stores, where we mostly get all the Indian vegetables as most vegetarian students that I know have no issue finding the food/vegetarian food they like.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): Few of the professors are not from United States, therefore it becomes difficult to understand their accents. Otherwise, their experience in the particular field is what a student gets the most help from. We have post discussion every week, an assignment exam every 2 weeks, then weekly presentations and group presentations. And a mid term and final exam.

It is just fine, not worth the amount of money I am paying. But just okay.
Tips: I have had a massive change in my personality. There is not a big cultural shift as all the masters' students are Indians, so you feel at home and don’t rely on getting international exposure a lot until you meet different people. I got a total of 4k off my tuition in terms of scholarship. Overall, the college and course is just fine.
Likes (Internships): Internships are not a lot, you can always make connections and talk to career services. You can also talk to alumni or your professors. There is, but there is a lot of fight seeing how bad the market is right now and how competitive the market is. All you can do is keep applying.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I usually go with what is the cheapest. Usually Uber eats have a lot deals on a daily basis where you can get buy1 get 1 and I am a non vegetarian so I have a lot of options for myself. For vegetarians, you might have options, but it would be less. Usually cooking by myself, but sometimes you can cheat

The economic crisis and policy changes concerning immigration have made living more challenging.
Tips: The culture here is both inclusive and accepting. You will be a part of some of the most culturally rich environments, with clubs and societies ranging from dramatics to artificial intelligence to sports and so much more. I was given a merit-based scholarship that reduced my tuition by 8,500, which has been helpful. Since this is a big campus, getting a bike would really save time.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Living in the United States these days has become a very far-fetched idea. The economic crisis and policy changes concerning immigration have made living here more challenging. It is even more difficult because student visas have been revoked in some cases.

Tips: I have seen a lot of transition here, both on an academic as well as personal level. The campus is very welcoming and focused on sustainability, which leaves a positive message. The faculty are all experts in their fields, and if you are from a tech background, you can look for internships as California is especially popular in technology. Very fulfilling experience with highly knowledgeable faculty.
Tips: I would recommend coming to the US for your postgraduate programs instead of your undergraduate studies. You will get a higher return on your investment, and you will save money. If you are planning on staying off-campus, find a local resident to be your guarantor. This will help you in several legal and financial aspects. Besides, there are student bodies that will look out for you in case you have difficulties adjusting. There are many different student groups here that are designed to appeal to lots of students' interests. Look around and see what piques yours, and get involved. Friendly faculty and big and vibrant campus with a good ranking.
Tips: Students should be prepared to go through a lot of work at once. Unfortunately, UC Davis has a quarter system, which means there's no break from rigorous academics. Unlike other schools that have semester systems, we go through a lot of work at once. The only advantage is you get a lot of time off. Time management is key when at UC Davis. Students enjoy attending various extracurricular activities organized by the college, including a career and internship fair. The campus provides many places to spend the day attending lectures and completing assignments. The faculty is good. They will help you with assignments and are very approachable. There are lots of opportunity available to learn and grow.
Tips: The campus is beautiful and there is a lot of space to study or unwind especially outdoors. If you are passionate about research and experimenting, then this would be a right fit for you as here students are encouraged to explore their own niche and ideas. Finally, one of the biggest assets of studying here would be its reputation as a teaching hub and the windows of opportunities present.
Likes (Indian Food): I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of Indian restaurants within the vicinity and how popular the cuisine is here. You will never feel out of place and there are specific restaurants for different states such as South Indian, Gujarat, etc. Most of them are pretty reasonable and the Indian grocery stores are quite popular as well.

its been a good ride so far
Tips: Before joining students should know that UC Davis is an expensive place to pursue their higher education so it would make more sense to come here with a scholarship or at least if you are keen on pursuing a degree which is more probable to land you a job. I would recommend you experiment with your electives and participate in cross-cultural events as those are a lot of fun. The faculty is supportive and motivates us to actively take part in events and activities. Overall, I am satisfied with the course and the country,
Dislikes (Internships): My main issue with internships is that although there are some very promising companies available, the college has minimal assistance in helping you land an ideal internship. You will instead be left to your own devices and will have to figure it out individually.

Hence, when you get time to settled on campus, make sure you book an appointment with a local bank and the student services who will be very helpful at this time. UC Davis: A satisfying student experience with good financial aid
Tips: The food habits and managing finance are two things I notice that are very different from my home country. Having said that once you get habituated, it is not a big deal to survive. UC Davis has very good TA opportunities and other scholarships that can be utilised for paying the bills and fees. I am very satisfied with my university and the course I am taking. Tips: The engineering and economics programs are renowned here and my program in particular, is quite challenging but also equally rewarding. My class is competitive, so relative grading is a bit of a disadvantage here and there are scholarships which one can secure if they have gotten at least 92% in 12th along with some extra-curriculars to show.
