MSc in Embedded Systems Engineering - Batch of 2024
4.1
Great college and a good city.
Tips: Students should be aware that completing a masters degree in two years is challenging; it typically takes at least three years. Scholarship opportunities in Germany are limited, but excellent students can apply for a few. Our university has a great staff and top researchers in the field.
Likes (Public transportation): Germany generally has very good and affordable public transportation. Freiburg city is well-equipped with options like trams, buses, and trains. With a monthly subscription of 58 euros, you can travel throughout Germany using regional trains, buses, and trams.
Dislikes (Internships): There is no support from the university for internships. Since they are not mandatory, they must be done during the semester break, which is usually very short or by taking a semester break. Some universities in Germany support students in getting internships by giving them subject credit.

The university is really awesome.
Tips: Basic German is a must. The university fee is around 1700 euros. I didn't have any scholarships, but I had a part-time job that was sufficient to cover my monthly expenses. The faculty is top-notch, especially if you want to excel in the field of AI.
Likes (Public transportation): Connections like S-Bahn, trams, and buses are readily available, making it easy to get around Freiburg. Public cycles are also an option for students. Monthly public transport tickets cost around 30 euros for those under 27 and 60 euros for those 27 and over.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are many mensa/mess options where the food is comparatively cheap, and they serve Indian dishes at least once a week. They offer large portions at affordable prices, so there's no real issue there. Many Turkish "done" shops in the city offer food similar in taste to Indian cuisine (spicy), costing around 10 euros. Other restaurants are quite fancy and expensive. While there are Indian restaurants, they often modify the taste to suit local preferences. For this reason, I mostly prefer to cook for myself. There are a few Indian stores in the city where you can find most masalas and other groceries.

University of Frieburg is high on value for money
Tips: It's an academically focused university that is in the heart of Freiburg city. Attendance is not compulsory so you can choose to go for whichever classes you like. Also, your grade only depends on the final exam, there are no assignments or mid-terms etc.
Likes (Value for money): No tuition fees and the state fees is pretty minimal, around 1500 euros per semester. This is also because I live in the Baden Wuttenburg state, otherwise, the tuition fees in other areas like Hamburg, Berlin, Munich etc. is even cheaper, around 200-500 euros per semester.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very few Indian options in the city as it is pretty small. Most of the restaurants there are Turkish or fast food places that offer the same stuff. And the Indian restaurants that are there, don't taste authentic and on top of that are super expensive.
