My positive journey in Germany
Tips: If you're planning to join IU in Berlin, you should know that the city itself makes the transition incredibly easy. Moving here as a self-funded student was a big financial step for me, but Berlin is so multicultural and international that I didn't experience any real culture shock at all. Apart from getting over the initial hurdle of the German language in day-to-day life—like dealing with local paperwork—you can easily get by with English since the student community and the city are so diverse. The practical, applied sciences setup at IU is quite solid, but the biggest win of studying here is just how well the city works around you. The public transit system is unreal—between the U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and buses, you can get absolutely anywhere in the city at any hour without needing a car. For a self-funded student, having that kind of reliable, integrated transport alongside a welcoming, global atmosphere takes a massive load off your shoulders and makes the whole university experience thoroughly positive.

Very good university for an MBA.
Tips: Students should understand that they are going for a higher studies abroad, meaning they are gonna move, stay, study and probably work part-time as well. So the transition is not gonna be easy. Also, it isn't tough given the seriousness of the student to take up the opportunity for moving to pursue higher education. There is learning in every phase of an international student. There are scholarships available but since it's Germany, there will be a lot of paperwork (bureaucracy). I am very satisfied with my university, course and Germany. Also, I received a dual degree from London South Bank University. I am very glad about it.
Likes (Public transportation): Berlin is the capital of Germany. Therefore, you won't find any trouble travelling within the city. The public transportation offers various modes of transport at an affordable rate but students can travel free of cost as their travel is already included in the Semester ticket which is to be paid to the university semi-annually.
Dislikes (Internships): You have limited guidance on finding or applying for internships. Of course, you can go through mentoring and/or using the power of the internet to find and apply relevant internship opportunities in Germany. Yes, there are enough internship opportunities available but I would say that most of them would be in the German language and/or the organisation or nature of the position will demand fluent German language skills to undertake the role.

Good college and well-lit campus.
Tips: I strongly advise students to have a solid financial base as there are significant costs involved including semester tickets, tuition fees and health insurance. I recommend exploring education loan options to cover these expenses everything else is manageable.
Likes (Student Life): The university is located in a very good location with excellent transportation and comfortable accommodations. The spacious, well lit campus, coupled with friendly staff is a major plus. Living in Berlin itself is also a significant advantage as locals are very friendly and respectful.
Dislikes (Indian Food): It's quite difficult to find authentic Indian restaurants in Berlin. Some are overpriced, while others aren't even Indian. There are also very few vegetarian options. I recommend that people cook their own meals most of the time and eat out only 1 to 2 times a week.

Intellectual and friendly campus.
Tips: You will learn to be very self-reliant and independent at this university. The university is welcoming, and the location is its biggest asset. You should learn the local language, even just a few phrases, so you can get around. You're allowed to work part-time for 20 hours a week.

Try to gain relevant industrial skills.
Tips: The University of Applied Sciences is a decent university. The course is in line with my objectives, but it can become stressful. The location in Germany is a plus. I would prefer to go to a public university if I had it to do over again. I wish I had known there were scholarships available. There are a lot of students from India, Pakistan, Ghana, and Zambia. I don't spend a lot of time on campus. I just go there to attend sessions and then go back to my dorm. I love that I only have to go to school two or three times per week. They have a lot of job fairs and networking events, and I participate in them fairly well. I do participate in marketing, computer, coding, music, sports, and even Dungeons & Dragons as well. Overall, I am very much satisfied with my experiences.
Dislikes (Internships): There are a lot of job fairs and career guidance sessions in the university, but I believe the recruiters prefer the students from a public university as they are quite well respected and are globally recognised. But if you put in the hard work, you can get an internship from the partnered recruiters.

Excellent people, highly engaging classes and modules are updated.
Tips: Applying through the university portals will benefit us with a scholarship that the university offers, which is not available for students who join through upgrade. I applied directly to university, which covered 67% of the scholarship. Compared to other foreign countries like the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, Germany has some standards in universities, and also most of the public universities' education is free with a high-quality education. Coming to IU, even though it's a private university, job opportunities and social acceptance with diverse people from different countries make life easier for Indian people to not feel left out and with a moderate or affordable fee. To permanently get settled in Germany, I would be required to live in this country for more than 5 years and also have a secure job to fulfill my financial expenses and should have sufficient language proficiency, typically at a B1 level in German.

Q:   How do I find accommodation in Germany as an Indian student?
A:

Accommodation options in Germany for students are mentioned below-

  • Student Dormitories (Studentenwohnheim): Managed by Studentenwerk (student services). the cheapest option (€200–400/month). Apply early — waiting lists can be long!
  • Private Shared Apartments (WG — Wohngemeinschaft): Most common for international students. Rent: €300–600/month per room in shared flats.
  • Online platforms: WG-Gesucht.de, Spotahome, HousingAnywhere, Immobilienscout24
  • Private student residences: More expensive (€500–900/month) but furnished and include utilities
  • University accommodation is mainly for bachelor's students; master's students typically need to find private housing

Recommendation: Start searching 3–4 months before your arrival. German housing market is competitive, especially in Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg.
