Opportunities for Growth
Tips: After coming here I learned to be independent, as I have to do everything on my own: earn money, study, cook, and look after my health. I received a scholarship for academic excellence, and I received a total of 2,000 euros. I'm pretty satisfied with my university course and the country. I love my course because it has a very good scope. Renewable energy is growing, and therefore you have a higher chance of getting jobs, especially if you speak German. University life is not like the one we have in India; we just go to the university to attend classes and maybe once in a while to attend any events. It's not as lively as Indian universities. I love Germany because you have the freedom to do whatever you want, and you don't have to pay a big tuition fee to study here, but you can still get a good education. We get a lot of opportunities to grow here; it depends on how well we use it and how SMART we are.
Likes (Part time work): I'm specializing in renewable energies, and I actually got a student assistant job in a company that is closely associated with the university, which is situated in the same city. If you are SMART enough, I think you can get a part-time job in companies like mine in the area because it's particularly famous for its renewable energy. There are also other opportunities for part-time work in the university itself, but it depends on the coursework and depends on how SMART you are. Off-campus part-time jobs are not as hard to find as in other big cities in Germany, but if you know German, it's much easier, as you may get easier jobs; if you don't know German, you mostly get work in warehouses and restaurants.
Dislikes (Student Life): The thing I enjoy the most about my college life is I can choose the subjects that I want to study instead of a fixed coursework; there are many options to choose from. For my course, particularly, there is no batch as such, so you SEE different people in different subjects' classes. You have total freedom to choose whether to attend the class or just to attend the exam. Attendance is not mandatory for the majority of the courses. At the end you just have to get all the credit points to finish your master's. There are many events like summer fest, chit chat with coffee, meeting and speaking with local people, and some traditional parties. But it's completely different from college life in India; we have to always choose to attend different events to meet new people, and I feel like the kind of unity and friendships that we have in Indian college life are not something that we can expect here. There are no such student clubs or communities like what we have in India.

DIT is a good university where all international students are welcomed
Tips: When you join a course at Deggendorf Institute of Technology, you must keep in mind that you cannot even pass a single subject without studying hard. You have to be curious and want to learn new things. The public transportation is not at all reliable. So when you come here to Germany, you should apply for a driver's license first. You should also think about acquiring a good working student job near Deggendorf or in the city itself. The career portal will give you the list of companies that hire working students or interns. Better not prioritize the other part-time work over your studies.

University provides good quality education in the most convenient
Tips: Make sure you have proper accommodation either nearby the university or the city; also, you should study the German language even if the course is taught in English. Most of the announcements and important messages are being communicated in Deutsch, so it's really important to have good knowledge, or else it's going to be really hard.
Likes (Safety): The transportation is safe, and some people are really helpful. There are situations where people help, but not always; it depends. The place where I'm staying is a residential area where I never feel unsafe in any way. Even students also provide all basic safety.
Dislikes (Part time work): The availability of part-time work nearby is rare; you need to travel to the next city for the possible opportunities. It's really hard to get back home after work. In most of the cases we need to spend the whole night in the railway station; that's really tiring.

Not as fun as expected!!!
Tips: Let’s be completely honest: Deggendorf is a tiny Bavarian town and if you're coming from a massive city, it is going to feel incredibly boring after a while. There isn't much of a nightlife scene, so you have to make your own fun with friends. On the bright side, the actual university transition is surprisingly smooth. The campus paperwork and registration are straightforward, so you won't hit any major bureaucratic roadblocks when you first land. Because local job opportunities are pretty sparse in a small town, a lot of tech students look outward. I actually managed to secure a remote Werkstudent (working student) role based out of Munich, which lets me fund my life here while commuting only when necessary.
As for the culture shock, the wildest moment happens when you first hit a local gym or sauna. German body culture is entirely different, and you will quickly have to get used to people walking around completely naked in the changing rooms without a care in the world. It’s totally normal here, even if it catches you completely off guard at first.

University in the midst of Nature, calm as compared to busy cities.
Tips: The university is practical-oriented and focuses more on practical understanding rather than theoretical one (just as any other Hochschule in Germany). The faculty so far has been really helpful and is available most of the time. The university is, however, located in a remote place, and thus the chances of getting a working student job or a part-time job are lower as compared to any other big city such as Munich. A lot of students travel to nearby cities for work, which is manageable depending on one's coursework. Satisfaction (3/5): I am attending my 1st semester, so there is a lot to discover.

A exciting University in Deggendorf
Tips: Yes, I have a transition because so many new and different rules are there. I don't actually, but there are many, and the university always supports me by email, providing all the information. I am very satisfied with university teaching and also sports that the university provides; the course is very nice and has clear concepts.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty members can be reached easily with email as well as after the lectures. Actually, it depends on the professor; everyone has their own way of teaching. Not much because almost everyone is German; there are some professors who are also from other countries, but that really doesn't matter here, so it's fine.
Dislikes (Public transportation): University is well connected. Only the bus is the only means of transportation. If you have a Deutschlandticket, then it is free, but not very convenient on weekends because no transportation is available on weekends, so we need to go by foot anywhere we want without any transportation.

Great value for money if the goal is to get a degree.
Tips: Students should know that for this university, studying in Campus Charm and finding accommodation is very difficult until they know some seniors already doing their master's in this Campus Charm. However, there are student WhatsApp groups internationally and specifically an Indian student WhatsApp group, which will be of great help in finding accommodation; other than that, traditional approaches like apps or WG-Gesucht are nearly impossible. eBay Kleinanzeigen is another good option. In terms of part-time, it is also very limited since the city is kind of a village and the number of vacancies is fewer; however, knowing a good German level is a very good plus point. But there are always options for the students to travel to nearby bigger cities like Regensburg for more opportunities, which is 1 hr away by train; that's the way many students are doing it.
Likes (Value for money): Yes, the tuition fees were just 72 euros for a semester, which is approximately just equal to 7.5 percent of monthly expenses. That's kind of free considering the labs, German classes, and the infrastructure and, of course, the course we study as a master's provides.
Dislikes (Internships): Here’s the deal with working while studying at DIT: if your specific degree plan doesn't force you to do a mandatory internship, hunting for a normal corporate internship can be an uphill battle. German companies usually prefer hiring students who need to do a mandatory stint because it cuts down on their paperwork and tax hassle.
But you can easily bypass that roadblock by looking for a working student job (Werkstudent) instead. When you go down the working student route, the playing field is completely level. Companies aren't looking for a mandatory university letter for those roles anyway, so you’re competing on equal terms based purely on your actual skills and how well you interview.

Average Experience with Room for Improvement
Tips: If you're thinking about joining the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, you need to seriously look into your specific course, the faculty, and the actual job prospects beforehand. Go in expecting to teach yourself most of the material, because the academic guidance and administrative support from the uni can be pretty disappointing and might not live up to what you're hoping for.
My own transition over to Germany was manageable, but getting used to a completely different academic system and lifestyle definitely took some time. The biggest shock was just how much independence they throw at you—you're completely on your own to figure out your schedule and keep up. I didn't get any scholarships either, so everything came straight out of pocket.
Overall, my time at DIT has honestly been below average. While Germany itself is a great country to live in and offers a really good quality of life, the university and the course itself just haven't met my expectations at all when it comes to actual teaching quality and student support.
Likes (Indian Food): When it comes to Indian food around Deggendorf, I gave it a solid 4 out of 5. The good news is that you can definitely find Indian food here, but the catch is that there are only a handful of Indian spots in the immediate area. If you’re craving very specific regional dishes from back home, it can be a real struggle to find them around town. Aside from that, the local food scene is mostly a mix of a few Indian, Turkish, Asian, and European restaurants. Price-wise, you’re looking at about €10 to €15 for a basic, quick meal, but if you want to sit down at a proper restaurant, it easily jumps up to €20 or €25.
Because of those prices, I almost always prefer cooking for myself. Eating out in Germany on a regular basis will absolutely drain your student budget. Cooking at home is just way more practical—it saves a massive amount of cash, and honestly, it’s the only way to make sure the food actually matches your exact taste.
Dislikes (Student Life): Honestly, I had to give student life a pretty dismal 2 out of 5, mostly because our specific campus feels like a total ghost town compared to the main hub in Deggendorf. There are barely any students around here, which completely kills the social vibe and leaves us with next to no campus activities. If you want to experience actual big events, parties, or major uni activities, you basically have to travel all the way over to the main Deggendorf campus because our location gets completely ignored.
A typical day for me is honestly a bit monotonous as I'm just dragging myself to classes, studying and constantly grinding away at assignments. By far the best part of the whole experience has been getting to talk to classmates from completely different backgrounds, which is a massive silver lining since DIT brings in a huge international crowd. But when it comes to actual campus life here, the events are almost non-existent. Because everything worth seeing happens at the main campus, I only bother traveling over there to participate every once in a while. It’s the same exact story with the student clubs and communities; they technically exist on paper here, but their actual presence is totally dead since all the real budget, opportunities, and major club events are centered at the main campus.

Good placement rate at this university.
Tips: Students must check their curriculum briefly to get an idea of what they will be learning in their upcoming years. Some programs require you to pass an assessment test before getting enrolled in your selected program. They should prepare themselves for the upcoming challenges.
Likes (Post study jobs): They have a pretty good placement rate after course completion. It is beneficial for students that they are getting employment just after finishing their course. There are many large companies too which students are getting placed into. They can visit Munich for better job opportunities.
Dislikes (Part time work): It's difficult to find part-time here. The first requirement would be the German language otherwise it would be problematic for an individual. The city does not have enough companies in which students can work part-time but still it is possible to find one.
