MSc in Computational Science and Engineering - Batch of 2027

A technical University with focus on Marine and ship for any specialization
Tips: Come fully prepared and well-researched about the course and opportunities. Learn German before coming here, this would help a lot. Have your niche, work on it, and most importantly, enjoy things. Better if you come with prior experience; this would help in getting opportunity more easily.

Uni Rostock College Review
Tips: German language is necessary. I haven't had any internship, And I also have very few friends eventually ended up having internships. But anyone can try their luck. I suggest my university is pretty okay. But my course with a mechanical background is pretty useless for real world.

The quiet yet wonderful life on the sea
Tips: The initial few months are hard: the language shift, the academics, we are not really used to studying in this manner. I unfortunate did not avail any scholarships. However, one tip I would give is to learn the German language to at least B2. The courses are excellent, very up to date, they will speak to your interests, and you have a lot of flexibility in the specializations you can potentially do.
Likes (Public transportation): It is the best. The place is interconnected, and everything is always walkable. The city is small but very touristy, a lot of people visit in summer. So the city is beautiful as well. You get transportation from the university as soon as you are enrolled in one.
Dislikes (Internships): In Northern Germany, there is an overall lack of internships. You need a lot of networking skills as well as a command of the language in Order to stand a chance at even being eligible for internships. Relevant internships generally are available, but as I said difficult to find.

Your life at University of Rostock
Tips: Even if your course is in English, learn German. Try to become more social and become more acquainted with the culture. Keep your life academically and socially balanced. If you are able to score well in the first 1-2 semesters, apply for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship, which will pay you 300 euros every month. I am quite satisfied with the course, as there are many electives to choose from to develop your skills holistically.
Likes (Public transportation): You get the Deutschlandticket as part of your semester ticket, so all local and regional transportation is free for you throughout Germany. In Rostock, we have trains, trams, buses, as well as ferries, which operate throughout the city as well as nearby towns.
Dislikes (Internships): As the city of Rostock is not located near big cities, to find internships you need to move or relocate to different locations where the companies are, which is not feasible before you have completed 2-3 semesters. There are many good, relevant internships available, but you need to apply for that in whole of Germany.

A great opportunity to study in Germany.
Tips: I did not receive any scholarship. I am very satisfied with my university and course. The faculty is very approachable and talented. Many interesting courses are offered to students. I did not stay in a student dormitory. That's why I had to pay more rent for a home in the city.
Likes (Public transportation): All the campuses are very well connected to different sections of the city. People can use trams, buses and S-bahns throughout the country with the Deutschland ticket. This ticket is available to all students every semester, after successful enrollment for the semester. The price of the ticket is already included in the semester fees.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very few restaurants that offer Indian food. Also, the food does not taste like authentic Indian food. There are a few vegetarian and vegan options. I prefer cooking myself to eating outside. You can find a couple of stores that sell Indian food products.

Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty members are always very friendly. The teachers motivate us to experiment with something new. They teach using different methods such as lectures, practical classes, project work, assignments, discussions, among other forms. While most of the faculty come from Germany, there are a few faculty members from other parts of the world.

Things to know about The University of Rostock
Tips: CSI course: Students are allowed to choose the courses they want to take each semester. It is best to look at the mandatory courses to take for your degree. There are multiple moral exams possible that last 20-30 minutes, which doesn't happen in India for final exams.
Likes (Safety): Rostock is a small town and hence, mostly, safe compared to other bigger cities like Berlin/Hamburg. People usually mind their own business, and nobody really cares what you do unless you are really misbehaving. It is not rare to find nice people, especially because there are a lot of students near the campus.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Knowing the language here plays a vital role in securing any job (even IT). Sometimes people don't get full-time jobs after graduation, and they end up starting another master's degree or doing a PhD just to save their residency status. The working student part-time jobs are limited only as long as you are a student.

Student life is good but after graduation the life gets difficult until getting a full time job.
Tips: Students should be prepared for independent learning. German language skills are very important not just for daily life but for job opportunities as well. The exams are mostly oral, so be prepared to read in and out of the subjects, the education system is entirely different from the Indian education system. Getting a scholarship is difficult but not impossible, I didn't avail a scholarship.
Likes (Public transportation): The public transportation is good here and is included in the University Fees. But the only problem is with the timings, they are never on time. It is well connected to big cities, but when it comes to smaller cities, the transportation is very limited.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Post-Study Job Prospects have been rated at 2/5 due to my own experience that obtaining full-time jobs after completing studies is not an easy task. My fellow students find it really difficult to obtain full-time jobs despite having good academic and technical profiles.

you have to do self study, no professor or any university give you in depth class for subjects
Tips: The transition period generally difficult. Ones you start moving around, making friends, meeting new people, and engaging with the local it will get better after some time. Time management is difficult. Can't handle every task in starting, tuition feels like 0, so there's no need for scholarships. In my case, I have to pay only the semester contribution, which is around 80 euros for one semester.
Likes (Safety): I feel safe living and studying here. There are generally no major safety concerns, and the city has a very peaceful environment, public transportation is well organized, and the police support is also good. I personally feel safe moving around the country.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The job market has become more challenging due to recent political changes and international business effects. Generally, salary standards are good. Overall, job opportunities are fewer in the market, and it is very challenging to get a suitable job after graduation.

self study is must, and German language is must for smooth life here however your course in English.
Tips: self study is more important than the class, for every subject you have to fine their basics and prepare vell for exams. not very hard to cultural shift. ones it starts it will adjust you in their ways. no need any scholarships, because tuition fee is 0, only have to pay semester constitution which is 67 euro in my case.
Likes (Safety): I feel vey safe living and study here, there are generally no major safety concerns and tee city has a peaceful environment. public transportation and other facilities are well organised and polish support is good around the country. I feel very positive and safe around and the country side also.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): the job market has become more challenging due to recants political and economical changes, with fewer job optioning and some layoffs, while salary standards are generally good and there are opportunity's in various field, overall job opportunity's is less

Good Learning Experience with Practical Opportunities
Tips: Students should know that studying here requires a good level of independence, time management, and willingness to adapt to a new culture. After coming to Germany, I experienced differences in language, communication style, punctuality, public services, and daily life. Learning German is very helpful, especially for part-time jobs, official work, and social interaction.
Likes (Part time work): Because there are many opportunities for international students. On-campus jobs such as student assistant or research support are available, although they are limited. Off campus, students can find jobs in restaurants, delivery services, and as warehouse workers. However, knowing the German language is important, even for part-time work.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Because there are several Indian restaurants in Nuremberg, but the verities and authentic regional taste are still limited compared to India. Indian restaurants usually cost around u20ac12-u20ac20. I usually prefer cooking at home because it is a cheaper, healthier.

Eye-opening, and life-changing challenges.
Tips: Firstly if your primary goal is to earn money please reconsider and allow a more deserving student to take the place. Secondly adhere to the rules as they are in place for a reason. Don't even consider pirating anything. You'll be fine with 900 euros. Scholarships are unnecessary. German universities have minimal fees. For instance, I pay 72 euros per semester, whereas I previously paid 700 euros monthly at NIT Calicut. Prepare thoroughly for your lectures, as materials are provided one week in advance. Do not attend lectures unprepared, as German professors will not hesitate to embarrass you.
Likes (Student Life): I graduated from NIT Calicut in India with a B.Tech degree and compared to that life here in Germany is at least 1000 times better. Libraries don't run out of books at the beginning of the semester professors aren't arrogant. You get licenses for 100 software programs to learn you can approach the student council if you have problems most events are free to participate and some paid events have minimal fees. You can join many communities and experience a lot more than you ever could in India.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I am in contact with over 20 companies that align with my interests and course. Regarding salary you can expect around 3000 euros per month upon joining with opportunities for significant experience and growth later. My advice is to focus on gaining experience and improving your German and English skills.

An academically oriented campus where you meet many like minded people from different cultures.
Tips: The cultural shift in my university is all inclusive of the German culture in general. A person who has transitioned themselves already in order to fit into the German culture can easily integrate themselves within the campus premises. There will be orientation or evening get-togethers where you can make friends from different backgrounds, understand their culture, play and eat along with them. It makes your university experience worthwhile.
Likes (Public transportation): You will get the option of buses locally and regular trains if you come from a nearby town. Since the university is near the city centre, it is easy to get there. And the university being close to the main railway station, you can easily walk to your campus.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The majority of the international students come here with the hope of settling down or getting a job without having proper knowledge of the local language. And since they spend most of their time earning or studying their English-taught course, they never get time to pursue learning German or even upskill themselves, which is why they eventually have to return to their own country.
