In order to make Dutch higher education accessible to international students and mid-career professional, the govt. is attempting to make many more scholarships available. The Dutch govt. has announced a scholarship called the Holland Scholarship meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to pursue bachelors or masters degree from Holland.

The Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science as well as 49 Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. In Holland, higher education is subsidized, which means that tuition fee is relatively low, especially if compared with the cost of education in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The scholarship amounts to € 5,000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies.

Application criteria

  • Your nationality is non-EEA, i.e. you are not a resident of Europe.
  • You are applying for full-time bachelors or masters degree at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions. 
  • You meet the specific requirements of the institution of your choice.
  • You have never before studied at an educational institution in the Netherlands.

You can apply for the Holland Scholarship at the Dutch institution of your choice, provided that the institution is participating in the programme. You can apply for the scholarship between 16 February and 31 March 2015. The institution will select those who will be granted the scholarship and communicate directly with the selected students.
