What is an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?
The Erasmus Mundus scholarship is a fully-funded program by the European Union (EU) that provides financial support in terms of scholarships to outstanding and meritorious international students to study only the top-quality joint master's degrees in multiple European countries. The master’s degrees covered in this program include periods of study, research, thesis preparation and defence, and traineeship.
This program works to enhance the visibility and attractiveness of higher education in Europe for international students coming from third countries.
The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships are funded by the EU under its Erasmus+ programme. The budget and priorities of this programme are, however, managed by the European Commission. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarships cover the total tuition fee, monthly living costs, health insurance costs and travel costs for international students who choose to study in the participating European universities.

Note:- The Erasmus Mundus Scholarship application round for 2025-27 is not going to take place, and students who submitted an application this year are going to be considered as self-funding international applicants.
Types of Master’s Degree Awarded and Accepted:
- Your chosen master’s courses must be 1-2 years long and have 60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits.
- You’ll gain either a joint degree or multiple degrees. For a joint degree, you’ll receive one degree certificate on behalf of at least two universities. While for multiple degrees, you’ll receive at least two degree certificates issued by two universities of the consortium.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
Here are the eligibility requirements for getting an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to study a joint master’s program in European countries:
- You must have a relevant bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
- Students from most nationalities, including India, can apply for this programme, making Indian students eligible for the scholarship.
- Only the completely filled applications with all the required documents attached are considered. The rest of the applications with incomplete documentation and missing details are rejected.
Who is not eligible for getting an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?
Note the following conditions under which you will not be considered eligible for this programme.
- Students who already have scholarships under the Erasmus+ programme are not eligible for this. This results in students who have already received the EMJM, EMJMD, or PhD-level grants not being eligible for another Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarships (EMJM).
- EMJM Scholarship holders cannot get another EU scholarship while pursuing their Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degrees (EMJMD studies).
Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarship Application Process
The application process for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship is managed by the consortium of universities that offers the specific master's program. Hence, students need to apply directly to the university for their chosen course.
You must start by choosing a suitable joint master’s program from the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship catalogue. Follow by checking out the program requirements and specific deadlines on their respective official websites/portals. The application window for these programs starts from October (of the previous year) to January of the year you want to start your course.
Fill out the application form for your chosen program and upload all the required documents, like a motivation letter, an updated CV, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and proof of English proficiency. After submission, the program's selection committee evaluates all the applications, and calls the rightful candidates for an interview.
