Established in the year 1924, Aleksandras Stulginskis University is a state university which offers a plethora of academic programmes in the fields of medicine, social sciences and technology. It is the only public research-based institution in Lithuania to grant degrees at the Bsc, Msc, diploma and doctoral level. These degrees are accepted across the globe. From the year 1924-1937, this university graduated around 125 students in various disciplines. It was in the year 1969 when the university was approved to undergo an extension. Formerly known as the Lithuanian University of Agriculture, this university adopted its current name in 2011. It was in the year 2019 that Aleksandras Stulginskis University and the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences were merged into Vytautas Magnus University.
Spread across 719 hectares, ASU's campus has five academic buildings, which contain numerous modern facilities. The state-of-the-art campus of this university ensures that the faculty and students have a safe and well-balance academic experience. ASU developed a new research centre in 2012 which is well-equipped with several world-class laboratories. In addition to this, the campus has 42 classrooms, 40 auditoriums and over a hundred labs. ASU's library is one of the intriguing parts of its campus. It has over 600 thousand books, research papers and other academic resources for the staff and students.
In the academic year of 2016, this university had a total of 4717 students enrolled. In this figure, the number of undergraduate students measured up to be 1493, the number of master's students was 965, and the total number of doctoral students was 81. In the same academic session, the university had 123 lecturers, 52 professors and 135 associated professors. The total number of research and teaching staff at this university is around 400 people. In addition to this, ASU has five academic faculties, including the Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of Water and Land Management and Faculty of Agronomy. ASU has established a strong partnership with various leading organisations to develop a global presence. It has over 120 international partners across the world and is also a member of the EU Erasmus. Some of the prime partners of this university are Grodno State Agrarian University, State Agrarian University of Moldova and Coventry University.
