History
Established in 1839 by Sackville merchant Charles Fredrick Allison who proposed the creation of a school for elementary and higher learning. Then, in 1843, Mount Allison Wesleyan Academy for boys opened. In 1854, the ladies’ college opened. Finally, in 1858, the degree-granting status was given to Mount Allison College. In 1992, Mount Allison received its first #1 ranking as Canada’s top undergraduate university from Maclean’s magazine.
