Q:   What are the requirements for Erasmus University Rotterdam?
A: 

Undergraduate requirements: 

  • Application Fee or fee waiver: Applicants must pay a EUR 100  application fee through the common application or official Application website. However, applicants using these platforms can request a fee waiver. 
  • Transcripts:  the applicant should submit the school report and the official transcript, including all secondary school courses. 
  • Standardised Test Results:  Erasmus University Rotterdam has a long test-optional policy for the 2024 admission cycle. That means that applicants for UG admissions for2024 enrollment can choose to apply with or without submitting ACT or SAT scores. However, if the applicant dosn't meet the requirement of 75% in 12th grade, then they must take SAT.
  • However, checking their official website for an even better understanding is suggested. 
  • Applicants must apply through Studylink

  • A motivation letter must be written given your opinions about topics.

  • Applicants must have a 70% in Mathematics
  • Indian studnets in CBSE must have  grades, A1, A2, and B1 for each of the 5 subjects
  1. CISCE: Indian School Certificate with a minimum score of 75% for each of the 5 subjects
  2. NIOS: Migration Cum Transfer Certificate obtained at the Senior Secondary School Examination with grades A, B or C for each of the 5 exam subjects.
  3. State Boards: Standard XII Certificate with a minimum score of 80% for each of the 5 subjects
  • English Proficiency tests must be submitted. 

Postgraduate requiremnts:

  • A statement of academic purpose (SOP)
  • Applicants must have a list of all their prior colleges or universities, accompanied by unofficial transcripts from each school. However, unofficial transcripts should be uploaded with the applicant's application.
  •  letters of recommendation, Applicants must enter the names of their recommender directly in the application, and they will receive a link to upload a letter on the applicant's behalf. (optional)
  • Applicants must submit their Resumes and CV (Optional)
  • A EUR 100 application fee for PG applicants
  • A standardized test, although the graduate school does not have tests minimum for admission, individual departments may have minimum requirements. However, they need to give IELTS or TOEFL if the applicant is from a non-English speaking native country. However, there are other standardized examinations, such as GRE and GMAT, which are compulsory, however, might vary depending on the course the applicant chooses.
Q:   Is Erasmus University free for international students?

Q:   Can Indian students get an English waiver if studied in English‑medium schools at Erasmus University Rotterdam?
A: 

In general, it is not really allowed for Indian students to get an English langauge waiver just because they studied in an English medium school. Given below are the instructions - 

  • Most of the courses require students to have IELTS, TOEFL or PTE coming from non-native English speaking countries. 
  • There may be exceptions based on what degrees you possess. 
Q:   How important is subject relevance between my bachelor’s degree and the master’s programme at EUR?
A: 

The subject relevance is very important for Indian students and it is usually assessed strictly for most of the courses at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Look at the given guidelines - 

  • To apply for an MSc programme in fields like Economics, Finance or Psychology, the students should have a BSc in a very similar field. 
  • Please note that you cannot generally switch from a Bachelor in Business to a Master's in Engineering. 
Q:   Does Erasmus Rotterdam require GMAT?
A: 

International applicants with an international Diploma applying to the university need not submit GMAT score. Even if the student has taken these tests or similar ones, the university does not consider these scores for admission procedure. However, specific programs like the MBA may still require GMAT scores, but this requiremnt varies across courses and is not for all postgraduate courses. Applicants are always suggested to double cgeck before applying to the university.

Q:   What IELTS score is required for Erasmus?
A: 

Erasmus University Rotterdam does require English language proficiency for International applicants with a minimum score. While Erasmus University Rotterdam accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), they also accept other English language proficiency tests. In addition to IELTS, Erasmus accepts other English proficiency tests such as CAE ( Cambridge English exams), and TOFEL. The Indian students applying to Erasmus University Rotterdam for the year 2026 and 2027 are required to use both the Studielink (the national portal) and the EUR admissions portal. 

Given below are the guidelines students should know about - 

  • Studielink is used to handle the official enrollment application 
  • The EUR portal is for uploading documents and tracking the application status 
Q:   Can I apply to multiple programs at EUR in one application cycle?
A: 

Yes, it is possible for Indian students to apply for different bins in one application cycle (for the 2026 - 2027 academic cycle). 

Given are the pointers that International students should know about - 

  • For each program, a separate application via the Studielink portal should be made 
  • For the UG program, the students can apply to a maximum of 4 courses 
  • For master's programs, there is no limit
Q:   How do I submit required documents after applying via Studielink for Erasmus Rotterdam University?
A: 

Once you apply via the Studielink portal, you are then required to submit an admission document via the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) online application portal, which is called OLAF. 

The university sends an email of the process within two weeks of your Studielink submission.

Balancing academics and social life with best value for money.
Tips: The transition would always be there, coming from a different country. However, it was quite easy to adapt and make friends. The introduction week especially allowed me to get familiar with the people and culture. Scholarships are available but I could not get one. There is a work-life balance and a healthy living environment. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the university, the culture, my course and the country in general.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus is very well connected to the city. Easy and affordable access to trams, metro, biking and buses. Multiple modes of transport are available throughout the city, connecting the University campus to the rest of the city. The biking culture is superior in the Netherlands, with connectivity in the entire country. This eliminates the reliance on expensive cabs and public transport at odd times.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are lots of international cuisine restaurants like Italian, Turkish, Moroccan, Indian, Yeminese, Portuguese, Chinese, and Japanese. The city has a wide variety of restaurants available. However, some of these restaurants can be expensive. The minimum cost of an average meal is 10–15 euros without a drink. Another option is supermarkets. However, there is less regional food available in supermarkets in this area, compared to places like the UK, the USA, and Canada. I prefer to cook and eat.

Tips: It can be a big cultural shock. Depends on one's priorities. But if your priority is to get into the culture, meet people from all over the world and get to know different perspectives, it requires one to get outside their comfort zone more often. But people are friendly and very inclusive in general. There are options for scholarships, but I did not have one. I am very satisfied with my life here, but given the current economic downfall in EU, it is really tough for a non-EU to make a living here. This could of course change in the future.
Likes (Safety): The country is pretty safe, even late at nights. The cops are helpful and people are generally safe. Of course there are a lot of criminal activities going on, but it is comparatively better than most of the other countries. The city is amazing, beautiful and clean. A lot of things are going on in the centre all the time and you see a lot of students walking on the street with different ethnicities. Nightlife can be really good, depending on one's taste, and also a lot of options to learn and grow. One just needs the will to do things and be able to get outside their comfort zone.
Dislikes (Part time work): Getting a part time job can be tough whether on campus or off campus as it requires the restaurant/cafes to get a special arrangement (money paid to the government) for employees who are non-EU. It can also be really tough to manage a part time job along with a 1 year master and maintain a social life. But it surely is possible. Average pay out is approximately 12 euros / hour.

Very rigorous academics but surrounded by some of the smartest students
Tips: I studied abroad in the Netherlands from the US and there is a shift in culture and academics. Unlike the US where you may have classes every day, in Erasmus there are only classes 2x or 3x a week, albeit they are longer. Classes are split into 3 hour lectures and 2 hour tutorials. The lectures are usually very huge with 200-300 students per lecture hall while the tutorials are led by the TA's and only have around 20 students per class. There is not a strong campus culture as those who come into classes are just coming for classes and in-campus housing is very limited. Housing is very important to find before you start your course since the country does have a housing crisis. Luckily, public transport is very good in the Netherlands, and in combination with the biking culture, you can live far and still commute to campus. There are exams every 2 months and your grade is only determined from your exams. Therefore, you need to be good at test taking to excel at this university.
Likes (Safety): The Netherlands is a very safe country and Rotterdam especially is very safe. The campus is away from the city centre so it is in a very residential area. Public transport and biking are very safe ways to commute in and out of campus. There is also campus security which patrols the campus.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are TA jobs which are the best part-time roles since you are directly under some of the most accredited professors in Europe, with EUR being one of the best universities for Economics in Europe. There are also other on-campus opportunities such as working in the cafeteria or cafes.

Not an easy path but a worthy one.
Tips: Erasmus is not an easy university and the double bachelor's in econometrics and economics is extremely intense but rewarding. Dutch food is horrendous as is the weather. However, if you can cook on your own, you can get most spices here and cook food yourself. Eating Indian food out is also expensive (in my opinion), but I may be biased. The university is overall good, with good lecturers and many research opportunities.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): We are allowed a full year after graduation to stay in the country to find a job. Personally, I have a non-Indian passport and wouldn't give it up for the Dutch one. However, living here for the long term is an easy possibility. Especially if you have a technical degree. However, there is a lot of anti-immigration politicians becoming popular here, so keep this in mind. Additionally, housing is expensive and difficult to find.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Prices are quite high. Fast food will run you around 10-15 euros for full meal and 20+ for a nicer restaurant. Indian food outside is even more expensive so tread lightly. To save money I usually cook. This is of course up to you and your budget. There are some people who can get by with less, especially if they are vegetarians, but nonvegetarians will have to be prepared to spend more. That is the unfortunate reality of the current situation in the Netherlands after last year's high inflation.
