History
Founded in 1831, NYU is the largest private university in the US. In the year 1832, the first classes began in rented quarters located downtown near City Hall. Then in 1914, NYU made the decision to establish an undergraduate program downtown that would serve commuter students. It was called as Washington Square. Slowly, expansion of students happened to NYU in 1919 to over 7,000 students in 1929. Then, a number of graduate schools were formed.
