Krinsk-Houston Law And Politics Initiative At UC San Diego Offers Pre-Law Experience To Students
This initiative at the University of California San Diego offers students opportunities to gain a robust pre-law experience of the law school launch and networking events with practising lawyers and law students.
Study in US: The University of California San Diego has shared the stories of its various law graduates who first attended the Krinsk-Houston Law And Politics initiative at the university before pursuing law.
Megan Chubb ’22 grew up in a small city and was an aspiring lawyer. She graduated from UC San Diego from San Jacinto Community College in 2022. She credits her admission to the Krinsk-Houston Law & Politics Initiative. It is a pre-law program offered by the university.
Chubb wants to become a corporate lawyer. She said, “I feel like UC San Diego and the Law and Politics Initiative really helped me. Professor Nichter was very encouraging, especially when we were having a hard time. She made the material so easy to understand. To this day, I remember everything she taught me. To anyone who tells me that they are interested in going into law, I tell them to go to UC San Diego.”
It Mainly Attracts Students Who Are First In Their Families To Study Law
Krinsk-Houston Law and Politics initiative especially inspire the students who are first in their families to pursue a law degree. It was founded in 2016. Through this initiative, the students get to interact with practising lawyers from a variety of specializations including intellectual property law to family, corporate, civil litigation, criminal law, and immigration. The participating students also get access to workshops on writing personal statements, LSAT prep, and various other law school admission-related topics.
A student, Davis, Calif., Sandhu, said, “The Law and Politics Initiative is the most helpful thing for any student who’s considering getting into the field of law. I highly recommend that they check out the initiative’s website or talk to one of the program leaders because it’s super helpful in figuring out if law is the correct path for you. It was really instrumental in helping me figure out that this is what I want to do.”
Students Also Join Law Adjacent Careers
There are students who also joined law adjacent careers through this initiative such as Briona Chata ’24, who became a commissioned officer in the US Air Force.
“When we read documents in our classes, we were not just glancing over them. We were critically thinking about it. Those skills are very valuable to my job as a finance officer reading legal forms. We have to be really methodical. That's something I learned in my major,” Chata said.
