Oxford Gets £8.4 Million Gift To Establish Centre For Global Primary Care, New Professorship

Study in UK: The Fondation Docteur Sadok Besrour has granted a generous gift of £8.4 million to Oxford University. Through this funding, Oxford University is all set to establish a new professorship and centre.
Study Abroad: The Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford is all set to establish a new centre and professorship to expand its work in global primary care. The university has received £8.4 million from the Fondation Docteur Sadok Besrour and it is planning to utilize this funding for the new establishments.
Through this generous funding, the university will set up a dedicated Besrour Centre for Global Primary Care and Dr Sadok Besrour Professorship of Global Primary Care.
While commenting on this, Dr Sadok Besrour said, "Primary care is the foundation of health systems that truly serve people. I am honoured to support the Besrour Centre’s mission at Oxford. I believe in the power of collaboration, and I am confident that this Centre will contribute to achieving better health for all."
Professor Irene Tracey CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, said, "This generous gift reflects our shared commitment to global health and equity. The Besrour Centre for Global Primary Care will be a key part of Oxford’s global health network. We thank Dr Besrour for his vision and support, and we look forward to seeing the Centre’s impact around the world."
Professor Gavin Screaton, Head of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division, said, "This new Centre will enhance Oxford’s leadership in primary care research and education. It is a vital step in addressing global challenges in healthcare access and quality."
Oxford's New Centre Details
The new Centre will be housed in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences (NDPCHS). It will focus on evidence-based and high-quality primary care globally. The funding will also help in an annual global forum to foster international partnership, administrative support for the Centre, and in providing fellowships and scholarships for the upcoming healthcare leaders with low and middle income countries.
It will strengthen its work of primary care systems globally through training programmes, global research partnerships, and policy engagement.
