Strathclyde Opens MSc Applications in Sustainable Engineering: Renewable Energy Systems

The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, is currently accepting applications for a cross-disciplinary programme, MSc Sustainable Engineering: Renewable Energy Systems & the Environment. The course has got its input from industry and it will be commencing in September 2025.

The fee for international students in the academic year 2025/26 is £31,100.

The students will be able to examine how the conservation of world resources can lead to a better quality of life. They will be able to explore how energy impacts the environment and how it can be reduced. The students will learn about various energy resources, including fossil, renewable, and nuclear, and will also explore the systems that are employed to control these energy resources, such as:

  • solar energy
  • heat pumps
  • energy storage
  • demand for power, heating, and cooling
  • advanced controls
  • advanced materials
  • high-efficiency systems
  • wind and hydro energy
  • integrated heating, cooling and power systems (at various scales)
  • buildings and indoor environments

Eligibility Criteria For MSc Sustainable Engineering: Renewable Energy Systems & the Environment

To apply for this program, the following are the eligibility criteria:

  • The applicants should have either a first-class or second-class honours degree in engineering, architecture or related subjects.
  • The students who have degrees in other disciplines can also apply provided they have relevant experience and the capacity for postgraduate study.
  • They must submit an IELTS overall score of a minimum of 6.5, with no individual element less than 5.5.
  • The international (non-EU) fee-paying students who are self-funded and enrolled in a full-time programme starting in September 2025 are eligible for a scholarship worth £5,000. The amount will be automatically reduced from their tuition fees.

University of Strathclyde's MSc Sustainable Engineering: Renewable Energy Systems & the Environment Details

The program has been running for over 20 years now and has produced more than 400 graduates. During the course, the students work in groups of four or five on a group project that focuses on a particular environment/energy system.

“Each project includes a technical appraisal, and, where appropriate, an assessment of its cost-effectiveness and environmental impact. At the end of the project, students will present to invited guests from the industry during the University’s Knowledge Exchange week. This event provides an important networking opportunity for students,” reads the university statement.

The students will also be working independently on individual projects on an energy topic. It will comprise a more in-depth analysis as compared to the group project.
