Study In Ireland: Technological University Of The Shannon Kicks Off Research Week

The theme of the third annual research week is “Sustainable Research in a Sustainable World.”
Study Abroad: Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has started its research week around the theme “Sustainable Research in a Sustainable World.” The main focus of this week is the emphasis on industry partnerships within the region.
President of TUS, Professor Vincent Cunnane, who launched the event said, “This will be our most extensive Research Week to date here at TUS. We are delighted to showcase the diverse range of research initiatives that not only advance knowledge but also contribute to the economic and social well-being of our region. These initiatives highlight TUS’s dedication to delivering impactful, forward-thinking solutions across multiple sectors, ensuring that research outcomes benefit society. It is a testament to our university’s dedication to sustainable research and industry collaboration.”
Vice President of Research, Development and Innovation at TUS, Dr. Liam Brown commented, “Fantastic work has been put in by all of Postgraduate Research students and RUN-EU partners who have participated with posters and presentations. Thank you to our collaborators, industry partners, the TUS Research and Graduate School team and our funders – the Higher Education Authority, Southern Regional Assembly, Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine, European Commission and Enterprise Ireland and Research Ireland for making this week happen.”
TUS Introduces Pilot Programme For People With Intellectual Disabilities
To help adults with intellectual disabilities by equipping them with skills, TUS has introduced a pilot program. It will help them to feel confident to participate in higher education.
The pilot program is titled ‘Certificate in Applied Learning and Skills Development’ (CALSD) and it is a level 6 qualification which focuses on personal development, inclusivity and preparation for employment and professional life.
Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology/ Director Progression Pathways at (TUS) Technological University of the Shannon, Dr. Maura Clancy said, “We are extremely proud to launch our Certificate in Applied Learning and Skills Development which will be available at both our Moylish and Athlone campuses. Student will gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to participate fully in higher education along with work-related competencies to facilitate meaningful employment. "
Dean of the Faculty of Science and Healthcare, Dr. Don Faller commented,“Teaching will occur in small groups with a high level of individual support, if required and will focus on active student engagement, adaptive assessments and digital literacy. There will be opportunities for students to experience mainstream classes in semester one, with progressive inclusion following in semester two.”
