The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships are awarded for up to two years for pursuing a master's degree at the colleges and universities of the USA. The last date to apply for the 2026-2027 Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships is May 14, 2025.

For highly motivated individuals who want to pursue a master's degree in the US and want to return to India and contribute, the US is offering the 2026-2027 Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships. The fellowship is for two years of duration.

It is available for the following subject areas:

  • Economics
  • Environmental Science/Studies
  • Higher Education Administration
  • International Legal Studies
  • Journalism and Mass Communication
  • Public Health
  • Sustainable Development/Sustainability
  • Urban and Regional Planning.

"Each applicant must choose one field of study that matches their main area of interest," says the statement of The United States-India Educational Foundation.

The benefits of the Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships include the funding for tuition and fees, air travel from the home city to the host institute in the US, J-1 visa support, living expenses and health coverage. However, the fellowship provides no financial support for dependents.

Eligibility Criteria For 2026-2027 Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships

The following are the eligibility criteria for the 2026-2027 Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships:

  • The applicants should have a US equivalent bachelor's degree with a minimum of 55% marks.
  • It should be a minimum of a four-year bachelor's degree. If a bachelor's degree is less than of four years, then they should have a full-time postgraduate diploma from a recognized institute in India.
  • The bachelor's degree should be from a recognized university in India.
  • The applicants should either have a four-year bachelor's or a master's degree.
  • They need to have a minimum of three years of work experience relevant to the program they will be studying in the US.

"If employed, should follow the instructions carefully regarding employer’s endorsement. If applicable, obtain the endorsement from the appropriate administrative authority on the FNMasters Employer’s Endorsement Form. The employer must indicate that leave will be granted for the fellowship period. Employees of the Government of India and Indian State Governments are not eligible for any Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships. This includes civil servants in central services (such as IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS, and allied services), state government services (including state civil services), and bureaucratic staff employed in central and state ministries or departments," added the statement of The United States-India Educational Foundation.
