Trump Administration Revokes Visa Of Indian PhD Student At Columbia University For ‘Supporting Hamas'

Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian PhD student at Columbia University has self-deported from the United States after her visa was revoked. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has said that her visa was revoked for participating in the pro-Palestinian protests at the university.

The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that she entered the US on an F-1 student visa. She was a doctoral student in Urban Planning at Columbia University and was "involved in activities supporting" Hamas, added the department.

While commenting on this, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said, "It is a "privilege to be granted a visa to live and study in the United States of America. When you advocate for violence and terrorism, that privilege should be revoked, and you should not be in this country. I am glad to see one of the Columbia University terrorist sympathisers use the CBP Home app to self-deport," as reported by Deccan Herald.

On March 10, the Department of Homeland Security launched the CBP Home app. It has a feature of self-deportation for migrants living illegally in the US.

"The CBP app gives such individuals the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream. If they don't, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return," said the Homeland Security Department.

US Govt Announces Initial Cancelation Of Grants And Contracts To Columbia University Worth $400 Million

To protect Jewish students, members of the Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism announced a cancellation of grants and contracts to Columbia University worth $400 Million.

"These cancelations represent the first round of action and additional cancelations are expected to follow. The Task Force is continuing to review and coordinate across federal agencies to identify additional cancelations that could be made swiftly," says the statement of the US Department of Education.

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said, “Since October 7, Jewish students have faced relentless violence, intimidation, and anti-Semitic harassment on their campuses – only to be ignored by those who are supposed to protect them. Universities must comply with all federal antidiscrimination laws if they are going to receive federal funding. For too long, Columbia has abandoned that obligation to Jewish students studying on its campus. Today, we demonstrate to Columbia and other universities that we will not tolerate their appalling inaction any longer.”
