University Of Strathclyde Introduces MSc in Advanced Computational Mathematics

The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, has launched an advanced postgraduate programme - MSc in Advanced Computational Mathematics. It is designed to equip students with cutting-edge skills at the intersection of computation, mathematics, and data science.

The program is all set to start in September 2025. The fees for the international students are £25,500. To get an overview of the course, the students can join a webinar on May 15. 2025, at 13:00 BST. The participants will get the opportunity to ask questions from the admission team and department staff during the Q&A session.

While commenting on this, Dr Alexander Wray, Programme Director for MSc in Advanced Computational Mathematics, said, “From simulating complex physical systems to designing the algorithms behind modern machine learning, computational mathematics is central to advances in science and technology. This MSc gives students a solid foundation in the mathematics and numerical methods needed to contribute meaningfully in these areas. At Strathclyde, the programme is shaped by real-world relevance and strong industry links, with a clear focus on depth, rigour, and practical application.”

Eligibility Criteria of MSc in Advanced Computational Mathematics

The following are the eligibility criteria for the program:

  • The candidates must have a second-class Honours degree (2:2).
  • They can also have an overseas equivalent in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Those with relevant qualifications or professional experience can also apply.
  • They must submit an IELTS 6.0 (with no component below 5.5).

MSc in Advanced Computational Mathematics: More Details

The programme is open to students with a strong academic background in computational science, mathematics, or numerical methods. The program is to offer a rigorous foundation in modern computational techniques.

The students will learn to solve real-world problems, which are complex in nature, by engaging deeply with numerical analysis, algorithm development, and the theory behind machine learning. They will solve such problems through innovative computational models.

The course blends both theoretical knowledge and practical training to train students in both analytical and computational skills that are in demand in various sectors. The demand for such trained professionals is increasing in industries like engineering and finance. The program has been designed to cater to this demand by offering interdisciplinary awareness, technical proficiency, communication skills, and problem-solving ability.

The program has three semesters. The students develop a strong foundation in computational techniques during Semester 1, and in the next semester, they get to deepen this foundational knowledge with a focus on deep learning for partial differential equations and numerical methods. In the last semester, the students will work on a research project in partnership with the academic and industry partners.

After completing the course, the students can join various sectors including software engineering, aerospace, actuarial science, manufacturing, consultancy, banking, and government roles. The various positions they can take up include software developers, financial analysts, operations analysts, accountants, auditors, and treasury analysts.
