Study Abroad: After pursuing a Master of Public Health from the University of Tasmania, the students can join as health policy analysts and advisor roles, health data analysts and epidemiologists.

University of Tasmania: Applications Open for Master of Public Health

Study in Australia: The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is currently accepting applications for the Master of Public Health program for 2025.

The course will equip the student with skills to change their community. They will develop confidence in navigating the interaction between research policy and its practice and will hone their systemic thinking skills. They will be trained to practice interventions and plan, execute and assess intricate evidence-based policy.

There is no application deadline, however, students are advised to apply for their COE, at least 2.5- 3 months before the course starts that is before July 21, 2025. The tuition fee for the entire course is $75,748 AUD.

“The design of interventions to prevent or lessen the burden of disease and disability, epidemiological monitoring, health promotion, health systems planning and administration, and evidence-based public health practice will all be covered in this course. In addition, environmental health, health economics, non-communicable illness prevention, and communicable disease epidemiology are covered in the course,” reads the university statement.

Eligibility Criteria for Master of Public Health

The following are the eligibility criteria for the Master of Public Health:

  • The applicant should have credentials equal to an Australian bachelor's.
  • They must meet English language criteria, pass any preparatory courses, and obtain the necessary grades in the qualifying studies.
  • For the English language following are the requirements - IELTS (Academic) 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, PTE Academic 65 with no score below 58, TOEFL (iBT) 88 with no less than 21 in Listening, Reading, and Speaking and not below 25 in Writing, Cambridge English C1 Advanced 176 with not lower than 169 in any skill.

Master of Public Health: More Details

It is a full-time course in English with a duration of two years. During the first year, the students learn about health research, public health intervention practice, global health systems, and systems thinking. In the second year, they will gain specific knowledge in the field of environmental health, communicable disease epidemiology, health economics, and non-communicable disease prevention.

“Additionally, they will have the option of finishing elective coursework units or working on a solo research project under the guidance of a subject-matter expert, which may serve as a springboard for a PhD. The MPH curriculum is benchmarked against competency standards articulated by the Council of Public Health Institutions in Australasia (CAPHIA). There is currently no professional accreditation required for public health tertiary qualifications,” added the university statement.







After completing the course the graduates can be employed in local, state, and national government ministries and health services, international health agencies, non-government health agencies, universities and humanitarian organisations. They can take up roles of the epidemiologists and health data analysts, Health policy analysts and advisor roles, and many more related jobs.
