Toronto Metropolitan University is a public research university. It was originally known as the Ryerson Institute of Technology. Toronto Metropolitan University History
The Toronto Metropolita Univeristy first opened its doors in 1948, welcoming around 225 students, offering them a few trade courses. The institute started under the name: Ryerson Institute of Technology on the site of the Toronto Normal School, which happened to be Ontario's first teacher training college.
The institute continued to grow over the course of the 20th century, & attained university status in 1993.
