SIM University (UniSIM) is a private university in Singapore, which was established in the year 2005. It was a former private university until 2017, after which it was restructured into the sixth autonomous university, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), and was brought under the Ministry of Education. It was previously known as SIM Open University Centre from 1994 to 2005. Its parent institution is the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM).
Its only campus is located in Clementi, Singapore. The endowment provided was S$416.57 million. It has about 1074 academic staff and over 70 programmes with about 15,000 students. The programmes and courses are made available through the five schools, namelySchool of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences, School of Business, SR Nathan School of Human Development, School of Law and School of Science and Technology
SUSS launched College of Lifelong and Experimental Learning (CLEL), which provides learning before and after the university education. There are three sub-units under CLEL which are the Centre for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE), Centre for University Core (CUC) and Centre for Experiential Learning (CEL). The university has also collaborated with some universities of great valour such as Athabasca University (Canada), Beijing Foreign Studies University (China), Cranfield University (UK), Chongquing City Management College (China) and Justice Institute of British Columbia (Canada). Alibaba Cloud-SUSS Entrepreneurship Programme was launched in 2017, wherein students received a certificate or minor in entrepreneurship. This was done to help the students learn to build a minimum viable product, ideation, validation and pitching for funding.
Students taking the undergraduate programmes here may be eligible for government subsidies, tuition fee and study loans and access to government bursaries. It has 32 part-time undergraduate courses suitable for those who work and study parallel. The full-time undergraduate courses available here are Bachelor of Accountancy, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education with Minor, Bachelor of Human Resource Management with Minor, Bachelor of Public Safety and Security and five more such courses. The full-time graduate courses available here are Graduate Diploma in Gerontology, Graduate Diploma in Taxation, Master of Gerontology and thirty more such courses. Additionally, it also has law programmes such as Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Law.
SUSS has 194 full-time faculty members and 1,159 associate faculty members, fully-equipped to help and provide the students with various opportunities and guide them towards professionalism. It has been reported that the 2018 Human Resources batch of SUSS had about a 95% employment rate and 98.7% of the accountancy graduates landed jobs within six months of graduation. Some of the notable alumni of SUSS are Aloysius Pang, an Actor, and Kaesang Pangarep, Entrepreneur, and the youngest son of Joko Widodo, the 7th Indonesia President. In 2018, SUSS also rolled out its Marriage and Baby Bonus Scheme in support of part-time students who are married and/or parents.
