Study in China: Cost of Living

Studying in China is about gaining quality education at a reasonable price. Many Indian students swear by the cost-effectiveness of studying in China. Here, we present to you an estimate of your spends if you plan to study in the country of the great dragon!
1) Studying in China: Studying abroad in China is relatively inexpensive than studying and living in any European or other countries. Usually, the annual expense as far as tuition fee is concerned varies from one university to the other depending on the location, and the chosen course. On an average, the tuition fee might vary from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3.1 lakh approx (23,000 RMB to 35,000 RMB). Universities may also charge an additional amount of Rs 1.5 lakh approximately as hostel fee.
2) Getting around in the city: Getting around in China is fairly easy on the pocket as the public transport system is quite good with places well-connected by buses and trains. You can get a Transport IC Card made which offers a maximum of 60% discount. You can get a card at any subway station or larger bus stations. You don’t need to hand photos, visa or any other certificate and no need to fill any forms.
3) Eating out: Eating out in China is quite affordable. A meal at the university canteen, a small local restaurant or a fast food chain typically costs between Rs 45-250 (5-25RMB). Mid-range dining options at Rs 250-500 (25-45 RMB) include both Chinese and international cuisine.
4) Accommodation:Most Chinese universities provide very good and comfortable dormitories especially for international students. The dormitories usually have private bathrooms for every room, TV, Internet access, washing machine, refrigerators and even a small kitchen. While you can stay in the university premises, you can also choose to rent an apartment outside the university. Although most universities in Beijing are located in the western part of the city, students generally consider dwelling in the east. This so because most restaurants, bars, clubs as well as international hospitals and foreign beauty salons etc. are located on the eastern side. A 1BHK apartment in the city centre will cost you approximately Rs 30,000 – 40,000 (3000-4000 RMB).
