- Part 1: Design assignment, 3 pages
- ”Cultural inlook”
There is a saying that we first need to study our past in order to understand our future. - In this design assignment, we would like you to investigate your own cultural background. What kind of wooden furniture can you find there? You are free to search 10, 50 or 200 years back in time, as long as you can find a piece of furniture you feel motivated to study. Use literature, museums or the web in order to find useful information. Use then this piece of furniture as inspiration for a new design in wood. The user of this new design will be you, 10 years from today’s date. Who are you then, and what are your needs?
- Your work must include the following:
- A sketch/illustration of your chosen piece of furniture as you have found it.
- A written description of your chosen piece of furniture, in three sentences.
- Process sketches and images. These can be photos, sketches and / or mood board. It is important that you show how you reached the result through the presentation.
- Visualizations of your result. You are free to choose any technique such as renderings, sketches, images of model etc. but the result should be presented in an image that describes the user situation.
- A written conclusion in which you motivate your result in terms of user needs, context and your personal goals. (maximum 1 page)
- ”Cultural inlook”
- Part 2: Portfolio, minimum 3 pages
- In this part you show own work that represent your creative experience. Here we look at form and color, presentation and ideas.
- Part 3: Previous experience and education, 1 page
- In this part, you refer to courses you have attended and describe past experiences that you believe are important for your application. Having attended a preparatory artistic training or preparatory wooden craft training is an advantage but not a requirement. Previous employments, hobbies or travels can be just as important to list here, if you find that it strengthens your application.
- Applicants invited for an interview will receive an additional task to complete and bring to the interview.
