Both EPFL and ETH Zurich are considered the leading universities for STEM in Europe. Both offer quality technical education. ETH Zurich generally houses more students. Yes, the EPFL University is considered the best university in the country for its Physics program. It's physics programme (especially UG courses) are known to be very demanding, with low pass rates.
