University of Geneva History
University of Geneva was first founded in 1559 as the Academy of Geneva by the French Theologian John Calvin, and had become the center of public education in Protestant Geneva. By the year 1565, the academy began the teaching of Law studies at the campus. Between the years 1789 and 1813 which was the French annexation of Geneva, the school was being reorganized into an universal format and degrees were introduced as well as faculties had been divided.
In the year 1964, Sophie Kanza had become the first Congolese woman to graduate and receive a diploma from the University of Geneva with a degree in Sociology.
