Vibrant, busy campus with events happening throughout the year.
Tips: Leicester, specifically, was a beautiful city with diverse cultural students living here. Being mentally prepared to start living in a new country or city and familiarising yourself with the surroundings and culture is important. Being open minded and genuine enthusiasm towards knowing others and building community. I would suggest joining volunteer works with the council will be helpful. Taking active participation in university student union events will help build relationships among the student community.
Likes (Indian Food): Leicester has many multi-cuisine restaurants and cafes, and you can find any type of traditional food here. A medium pizza is £8-10, meal deal options in supermarkets are £5. Students can always use student discounts, for which they need to install the UNiDAYS app. I prefer cooking my own meals, we have a couple of big Indian grocery stores in Leicester, like Falcon and Yours Supermarket, and mini marts on Melton Road.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The current situation in the UK job market is not favorable, particularly for students and new graduates. Unemployment is currently around 5%, while the number of job openings is at an all-time low. For international students, only highly competitive jobs will secure their permanent residence in the country. Also, most of the sponsored jobs are required to be on degree level 6, and the price for sponsorship has also gone up. However, students have a wealth of opportunities for internships and learning.

Likes (Public transportation): There is a great network of public transport systems available, such as the metro, the bus system, and the tram system in Dubai. This public transport system is very good and clean. It is safe and inexpensive for students traveling within Dubai.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are a lot of Indian restaurants in Dubai, which range from economical ones to costly ones. But there are also some Indian dishes that cost a lot of money, so eating and preparing food at home can save money during the month. Additionally, students can experience other nations' food.

Tips: De Montfort University has a mix of people from around the globe. Students respect different cultures, and discrimination is found rare. The staff are also from different parts of the world. The students should be mentally prepared to manage both their academics and part-time jobs. DMU provides fully funded scholarships, which the students can browse through on their website. I am happy with the facilities the university has provided. However, the UK's more policies regarding the expulsion of immigrants are being introduced; students should double-check before spending on their respective courses.
Likes (Public transportation): The university is well connected in means of transportation. The university is in the heart of the city. Public transportation is always affordable and convenient. The roads are well designed for pedestrians. The university is a 20-min walk from the main bus station.
Dislikes (Internships): For international students, it's very hard to find internship options. There are students who come with a placement year. This might help them to find internship opportunities since there is an additional year to help them find internships. For sustainability, though job opportunities are more, again, finding placements is a tough job like any other field.

You’ve got to milk all the campus resources you can get your hands on while you’re here. The university itself is honestly great, but at the end of the day, teaching yourself is always going to be the secret to surviving.
Things can get completely overwhelming here because of DMU's block teaching approach, where you focus intensely on just one module at a time rather than juggling four at once. Because the pace is so fast, if you don't stay on top of the material yourself, you will fall behind before you even realize it. You really have to take the initiative, use the library, and dive into independent study to actually make sense of everything.

Leicester as a city is way more affordable compared to living in a massive hub like London so your rent and daily expenses won't drain your bank account. When you combine that lower cost of living with the solid career support and industry placements DMU provides, you end up getting a really great return on what you put in. Just make sure the syllabus aligns with your career goals before you apply so you don't end up wasting your time.
Likes (Indian Food): The university is in Leicester, a city known to host a large Asian population; hence, Indian food and flavors are easily accessible. You also get a lot of multicultural cuisines around the city. It feels like home away from home. Just don't worry about food.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The current visa rules in the UK are very stringent making it very difficult for an international student to secure a work permit. The government has raised the salary thresholds for almost every sector so if you don't have much experience in your field, it's very difficult to meet those numbers.
