History
The university's roots go back to 1870. DMU UK began as the Leicester School of Art, a school to educate locals. Over the years, it grew into the leading institute in Leicester. 1897 saw the merging of the School with the Technical School ot create the Leicester Municipal Technical and Art School.
In 1909, the School of Pharmacy was founded. The institute also supported the UK's efforts in the Second World War. The institute grew over the rest of the 20th century. It finally received university status in 1992 and took over its present-day name.
