MSc Environmental Technology - Batch of 2026
3.8
Imperial College helps you prepare for life post-academics.
Tips: I think students should sign up for as much as they can professionally, academically and in terms of hobbies, as they can, as Imperial is fortunate enough to have access to a great number of resources and networking events. There is only so much you can learn in your course; the rest is up to you to follow up on. I did not receive a scholarship; however, Imperial College does offer the opportunity to apply for one. I was quite satisfied with my shift to this country and felt like there was no significant cultural shift for me personally; however, that can vary from person to person.
Likes (Public transportation): The main transportation methods to campus are by bus and the tube. However, Imperial College also offers a free shuttle running to the campuses at South Kensington and White City. The tube can be expensive after a while, so I would recommend using the bus more often. Depending on how far you live from campus, you can also walk or buy a cycle, which will help you save money in the long term, as London is a cyclable city.
Dislikes (Value for money): I felt my course was quite broad and not as specialized as I would have liked. In the second term of my course, you get to choose a specialisation, which was more interesting and relevant than the first term; however, coming from a similar background in my undergraduate studies, I would have liked more hands-on experience.

MSc Applied Genomics - Batch of 2025
4.3
Challenging but Rewarding
Tips: The faculty members are extremely accessible and supportive, providing a platform for discussing concepts and research ideas. This course consists of lectures, practical classes in genomics and is predominantly a research-based program with faculty members coming from different backgrounds.
Likes (Public transportation): Excellent transport facilities are available in Imperial through the tube and buses. It becomes very easy for someone to travel across London because of excellent connectivity that is facilitated through these transport means. There are also free transport services provided by the university through shuttles between campuses.
Dislikes (Safety): The campus of Imperial is safe, with frequent security patrols, closed-circuit television cameras, and various safety applications. Nevertheless, there are cases of theft in the city of London. Though I have never personally experienced that problem, it was mentioned to me by my friends.

MSc Environmental Technology - Batch of 2025
3.8
Imperial College London -MSc Environmental Technology - Mature student experience
Tips: I was awarded the Chevening scholarship, with an allowance of 1698 GBP. My tuition fee was also covered. The weather is much colder and harsher, and it's a little more isolated than in India. Students need to make sure to take measures to stay warm (physically and emotionally). Being able to cook saves a lot of money and is healthier. My university and course were good, but I would've preferred having more contact classes. And for mature students with work experience, the course may feel a little underwhelming.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty were very approachable and knowledgeable. There was a lot more emphasis on discussions, debates and understanding multiple perspectives. We were encouraged to think and develop an opinion. Though the contact hours were fewer, I managed to learn a lot.
Dislikes (Part time work): On-campus opportunities are limited. While it is definitely manageable to work part-time and study, finding opportunities was challenging. I did apply to certain part-time jobs, but I didn't receive any response. Trying to find jobs through people you know or your ethnicity may help? But because I had a scholarship covering my expenses, I didn't try harder.

"An Up-Hill Learning exp"
Tips: Be very proactive; time moves fast, and by the time you settle down, 6 months are gone. Be proactive and network with the relevant people, even before you reach the campus. Do not rely on classroom learnings only, and I would recommend making a list of people/companies/industries you want to target.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Some of the best, well-read, well-educated faculty. True passion for what they teach and the method of teaching. More project-based work, more learning from people in the industry—so they teach in a way that you "shadow the bankers" and learn. That's about it.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The 4 is because of the macroenvironment. The political environment and things of that nature do impact the job search, so I guess being proactive is all you can do. Besides that, the career team is very supportive, and the university organizes networking events with banks and PE funds and has people come and speak—so the knowledge is given.

MSc Applied Machine Learning - Batch of 2023

Bridging Culture and Building Future .
Tips: The biggest transition was academic style, which is heavily focused on self-study and critical thinking. Cultural, the shift was smooth, though the weather, ie quite gloomy. I am very satisfied with the quality of education and the exposure I have received. It entirely depends on us and our goals.
Likes (Value for money): The Imperial College London gives us good returns like working for 2-3 years with a great pay and going back to your home country. The return on investment is good. The reputation you get after studying from this university is commendable, and everyone knows about the university. It has worldwide reach.
Dislikes (Internships): No doubt there is a decent amount of guidance provided; in fact, the university organizes various networking events and workshops as well. Yes, there are internships available across the UK. Still, a lot depends upon the job market and the field you are in.

M.Sc Environmental Engineering with Data Science - Batch of 2025
3.1
World second best college.
Tips: The transition is smooth; there are a lot of Indians. I would suggest making international friends as well. I availed myself of a 25% scholarship due to my performance in my bachelor's. Education is top-notch, but job opportunities have reduced significantly. Classes are there 16 to 17 hr per week.
Likes (Public transportation): I gave public transport a full 5 stars because honestly, navigating London as an Imperial student without a car is an absolute breeze. The South Kensington campus is practically sitting on top of the Underground station, meaning you have the District, Circle, and Piccadilly lines right at your doorstep. You can literally just tap your phone or an Oyster card at the turnstile and get anywhere in the city within minutes. Between the Tube, the constant stream of red double-decker buses running 24/7, and the national rail network to head out of town for the weekend, there is zero reason to ever worry about driving or parking in London. The services run incredibly frequently, and even though TFL delays happen occasionally, the sheer scale of the network makes commuting or just exploring the UK straightforward and stress-free.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I gave permanent immigration a literal 1 star because trying to settle long-term in the UK is a complete joke right now. Honestly, when you're busting your back doing an intense degree at Imperial, you'd think they’d actually want to keep you but the government is just making it impossible to stay. They’ve basically doubled the wait time for ILR from 5 years to a grueling 10 years for a ton of people, made the English test rules way stricter, and are actively hacking away at the graduate visa duration. Plus, trying to actually settle or get sponsorship is a nightmare because the salary requirements are just ridiculously high now. It just injects so much stress and uncertainty into your future. It makes you feel like there's no point even trying to build a life here when they keep shifting the goalposts on you.
