History
England Newcastle University came into existence in 1963, through the merger of two institutions - Barber Surgeon’s Company Hall of Newcastle and College of Physical Science. With the growing demand for surgeons and doctors, the Barber Surgeon’s Company Hall of Newcastle was established in 1834 and a School of Medicine and Surgery was established. Later in 1871, a College of Physical Science was founded, to produce Engineers, Architects, Chemists and Biologists to meet the demand in the growing shipbuilding, iron, steel, mining and agricultural industries. It was the year 1937 in which these two colleges merged into one and it was then called King’s College. Later, it became the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
