- Either or both classical languages (Latin and Ancient Greek), Classical Civilisation, or Ancient History can be helpful to students in completing this course, although they are not required for admission
- For Classics and French, German, Russian, and Spanish:
- Candidates would usually be expected to have a modern language to A-level, Advanced Higher, Higher Level in the IB, or another academic equivalent.
- For Classics and Czech/Beginners' Czech, Italian/Beginners' Italian, Modern Greek/Beginners' Modern Greek, Portuguese/Beginners' Portuguese, and Beginners' German:
- Candidates may apply with an A-level or equivalent in the relevant modern language or for a beginner’s course, which allows students to start studying one of these languages from scratch.
- Beginners’ courses are not available to candidates who have not studied either Latin or Ancient Greek to A-level or equivalent, and will be taking a beginners' course in a classical language
- India-specific requirements:
- Applicants must have completed high school with either the CBSE (All-India SSC) or CISCE (ISC) boards
- For the CBSE board, we are aware that students will not know their grades at the point when they are applying
- For CBSE board: Grades A1 A1 A2 A2 A2, with grade A1 in any subjects relevant to the course applied for
- For CISCE board: Overall grade of 90% or more, with grades of at least 95% or above in two subjects (including any relevant to the course applied for) and 85% or above in the other three subjects
- State board examinations are not accepted
- Marks - 76/90
- Minimum 66 in Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. The university does not require particular scores in the Enabling Skills

- Minimum score per component is 7.0
