History
The University of South Wales was established in 2013 however, the roots of the university can be traced back to 1841 with the foundation of the Newport Mechanics Institute which was established with the idea to provide technical education to students in the changing industrial world. In 1910, Newport Technical Institute was established which came to be known as the School of Art among the local population. In 1914, Caerleon College was established with the idea of training teachers. The University of Glamorgan was established in 1992 and in 1996, the University of Wales was established in Newport. The current University of South Wales was established in 2013 after the merger of the two universities.

Foundation Programmes
Foundation Years programs are for students who fail to match the academic requirements for taking direct admission into a bachelor’s degree course. Students who have a good knowledge of English, such as an IELTS score of 6.0 or above are eligible for foundation courses.
