University of Bridgeport History
The State Charter for the Junior College of Connecticut was signed on May 5, 1927 where Dr Fones had bought a large building at Fairfield Avenue which had to be used as the first college building. By the year 1947, the school was renamed and became University of Bridgeport that is located on the former Barnum Estate which is adjacent to Seaside Park.
With decades passing, many of the university schools and faculties were established and the Bsc in Nursing program was founded as well which became the first Master's Degree in Nutrition. In 1953, the Arnold College had been merged and was incorporated into the College of Education. By the year 2014, the universuty had 13 colleges, insititutes and schools on campus and later in 2018, these were incorporated into three colleges named College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business, Education and the College of Health Sciences.
