Being founded in the year 1850, Heidelberg University is a four-year private institution that combines liberal arts and professional preparation. It is affiliated under The United Church of Christ. It was previously known as the Heidelberg College. The architecture of the campus is such that it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Heidelberg University is located on a 125-acre campus with approximately 90 additional surrounding acres in Tiffin. The campus is located on the east side of Tiffin on College Hill. the university offers around 74 Majors, Minors, Pre-Professional programs. The Honours program of the university is known as The Life and The Mind, which focuses on 4 main thematic concepts-the the citizen, the artist, the scientist, and the scholar. The university has around 1,186 students, of which 52% are men, and 48% are women. The university has an average class size of 17 students and the student to faculty ratio measures 13:1.

One of the noteworthy features of the university is the religious outlook of the university and the way it influences the students of the campus. There are multiple religious clubs and organizations of the students functioning in the university. There are 4 designated sacred places inside the campus for worship services. Apart from the religious student groups, there are several other clubs and organizations of the students based on varied interests ranging from Musical to Greek, from Special Interests to Communication. They regularly arrange various types of activities including social welfare services, exhibitions, etc.
The athletic division of H.U. consists of Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field, Wrestling as men's sports and Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball as women's sports.
