Illinois Institute of Technology was first created in 1940 by the merger of Armour Institute and Lewis Institute. Illinois Tech was established in 1890 by the estate of a hardware merchant and an investor, who offered liberal arts, science, and engineering courses for both women and men. The main campus of the institute is located on the West Side of Chicago, Lewis Institute. Illinois Institute of Technology has four campuses and the Mies campus has an area of 120 acres.

Illinois Institute of Technology has the Office of Campus Life has a range of student clubs and organizations. It also includes services such as Student Orientation, Advisement, and Registration, First-Year Experience Programming, Service Learning, diversity programs, and parent programs. Illinois Institute of Technology has more than 125 student organizations that are currently active as well as office programming services. Some of the facilities offered at Illinois Tech that make it a unique place to study are given as follows:
- Academic Resource Center- It is a comprehensive center with a range of services for the students and faculty at the campus. The center has a goal to enhance the academic experience through a student-centered approach to learning along with peer tutoring in subjects like Mathematics, Architecture, Engineering, and Sciences.
- Career Services- This is a resource offered to students on-campus with a goal of professional development and career planning. Some of the resources provided to the students include individual and small group advising with career development coaches, resume reviews, cover letter writing, LinkedIn profiles, and more career-related documents.
- On Campus Housing- Illinois Institute of Technology offers on-campus housing for both undergraduates and graduate students where they can choose to live in the residence halls. Family Housing is offered to students who are living with a domestic partner or in the legal guardianship of a parent. A range of meal plans are provided to the students who are living at the campus residence halls. The main housing options at the campus are shared dormitory-style rooms the fully furnished apartments with kitchens.

Conviser Law Center
The Downtown campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology is located at 565 West Adams Street and was established in 1992 by Gerald Horn of Holabird & Root. The Downtown Campus is home to Illinois Tech's Chicago-Kent College of Law and Institute of Design and the university was later renamed the Conviser Law Center in early 2020.
