Illinois Institute of Technology was first created in 1940 by the merger of Armour Institute and Lewis Institute. Illinois Tech was established in 1890 by the estate of a hardware merchant and an investor, who offered liberal arts, science, and engineering courses for both women and men. The main campus of the institute is located on the West Side of Chicago, Lewis Institute. Illinois Institute of Technology has four campuses and the Mies campus has an area of 120 acres.

- On Campus Housing- Illinois Institute of Technology offers on-campus housing for both undergraduates and graduate students where they can choose to live in the residence halls. Family Housing is offered to students who are living with a domestic partner or in the legal guardianship of a parent. A range of meal plans are provided to the students who are living at the campus residence halls.
