Queens College is a reputable educational institution that was formed in 1937. Before its establishment, the campus area of the college was used by Jamaica Academy. The college is a part of City University of New York (CUNY) and offers educational programmes in science and liberal arts under the supervision of highly qualified faculty members. It operates bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programmes, as well as advanced certificate courses. Queens College enjoys a national reputation when it comes to offering education in liberal arts and sciences and pre-professional programmes. It serves about 20,000 plus students with its wide range of graduate and undergraduate degrees, research opportunities, honours programmes, internships and placement opportunities. This is the institution which has been cited as a “Best Value” college in the Princeton Review for 28 consecutive years.
The college has students from more than 150 countries. It participates in the CUNY Honours College and also offers its own honours programmes in various branches of science, arts and humanities and social sciences. Also, students interested in mathematics can apply for a programme called TIME 2000. Moreover, it allows students to enrol in non-credit courses in fields like paralegal studies, health care, risk management and real estate. The college maintains a beautiful campus with a historic building and is spread over an area of 80 acres. The campus is comprised of modern laboratories, a stunning music building and the 6-storey Rosenthal Library. The campus maintains environment-friendly surroundings. It was even included in the Princeton Review's first-ever Guide to 322 Green Colleges.
The academic structure of the college has 4 major divisions, including arts and humanities, social science, mathematics and natural science and education. Also, there are more than 100 different organisations and clubs allowing students to pursue their interest. Most of the organisations are nestled within the Student Union building only. Other than this, the college maintains various centres and institutes which serve students and people to fight problems like cancer, pollution and racism. There are other centres also that offer lessons in arts, music and theatre. The students of this college represent 170 countries and speak around 90 different native languages.
The college participates in NCAA Division II sports and has some of the best sports facilities in the area. Apart from all this, the college has produced a number of talented students who are now working in different industries across the world. Many of Queens’ graduates are celebrated names in the entertainment industry. And, these include Jerry Seinfeld (actor and comedian), Jon Favreau (actor and director of Iron Man & Iron Man 2), Adrien Brody (Academy award-winning actor) and Joy Behar (comedian and co-host of The View)
