Applicants must:
- Have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following or related fields: anthropology, archaeology, art history, classics, design, education, history, science, or public/art administration, or other fields relevant to Museum Studies, such as communications, environmental studies, fine arts, humanities, or other relevant academic areas.
- Have at least a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in the last 60 semester units of upper-division courses completed.
- To meet the minimum eligibility standards for graduate study at San Francisco State, an applicant must:
- hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate campus authority;
- be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended;
- have a 3.0 GPA or better in their earned undergraduate degree or the last 60-semester (90-quarter) units completed, or have earned a post-baccalaureate degree; and
- meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus may make exceptions to these criteria.

- 4 year Bachelor's Degree, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Pharmacy, and Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, and Bachelor of Architecture
- Post Graduate Diploma or Master's Degree
- Hold a 3 year Bachelor's Degree AND a Post Graduate Diploma or Master's Degree are eligible for graduate admission
