The university's history is very important. On the University of Minnesota campus, there are about 50 different structures. On the National Register of Historic Places are four of them. Concourses and passageways efficiently link all parts of the university. In addition, the university is home to the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium, Weber Music Hall, Tweed Museum of Art, and Tweed Performing Arts Center. University students can enjoy both city life and the great outdoors in Duluth, Minnesota's fourth-largest city.
University of Minnesota courses provide more than 150 undergraduate majors and minors, over 25 graduate programmes, a two-year School of Medicine programme, and a four-year College of Pharmacy programme. The university has nine colleges and schools. These include the Graduate School, Medical School, Labovitz School of Business and Economics, College of Pharmacy, College of Liberal Arts, School of Fine Arts, Swenson College of Science and Engineering, and College of Education and Human Service Professions. Notably, the Twin Cities campus has a direct connection to the Medical School at the University of Minnesota. International undergraduate students must pay 19,952 USD as University of Minnesota fees. There are four apartment buildings and five resident halls at the University of Minnesota - Duluth. 1,850 students are housed in resident halls on campus by the university, while 1,100 others live in apartments. Burntside Hall, Griggs Hall, Ianni Hall, Lake Superior Hall, and Vermilion Hall (an all-male facility) are among the residence hall options. The Goldfine Apartments, Heaney Hall, Junction Apartments, and Oakland Apartments are among the apartment buildings. Four students are typically allocated to each flat.
Students who finish their application files for the autumn semester and the spring semester before the deadline are given international student scholarships. The award has a maximum value of 12,000 USD divided over 4 years, or 3,000 USD annually. The University of Minnesota Duluth offers $125 million in financial aid each year and has fee reciprocity agreements with Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Alumni, charities, and businesses frequently donate money to the institution to boost its success and performance. The institution received gifts totaling approximately $14.3 million in 2019. Over $15.6 million in grants were awarded for research during the 2017–18 fiscal year.
There is a lengthy list of accomplished University of Minnesota notable alumni. Brian Kobilka, who won the 2012 Nobel Prize in chemistry, is at the top of the list. Robert Senkler, the former chairman and CEO of Securian Financial Group, is another well-known figure. Don Ness and Emily Larson, two of UMD's mayors, have served as mayors of Duluth.
