The University of Phoenix is a for-profit institution of higher education that was founded in 1976. Also, the university was founded by John Sperling in response to the changing needs of the workplace. The university is officially certified with the Higher Learning Commission at the regional level.
With headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, the university offers more than 100 academic programs at bachelor's, certificate, associate, masters, and doctoral levels. The university comes with an open enrolment admission policy. To get admission, students are required to submit either a high-school diploma, GED, or its equivalent. The university saw a steep rise in 2010 when it received a total student enrolment of over 600,000 students. The university has its core campus in Pheonix but students majorly participate online.
The university manages over 500 campuses and learning sites while it was at its peak. It now offers education in several areas through its multiple schools and colleges including School of Advanced Studies, College of Health Professions, School of Business, College of Education, School of Health Services Administration, College of Information Systems and Technology, College of Humanities and Sciences, School of Nursing, College of Social Sciences and College of Security and Criminal Justice.
Students here are provided with advanced teaching aids and offered a healthy learning environment in the presence of skilled professionals. All the academic staff members at the university are highly skilled with advanced education in their field of specialization. Apart from traditional education programs, it offers regular education courses for teachers and practitioners, professional development programs for organizations, and dedicated courses of study for military personnel. Students get to spend around 20 to 24 hours with an instructor during each program. The University of Phoenix maintains class-specific online resources including an e-library and other study materials. Moreover, the university maintains organizations and clubs to help students build their interests apart from academics.
The university has a huge alumni network including people who are now working in some of the reputable originations of the world. It has proudly produced over 1 million graduates. Some of the prominent and successful alumni include Howard Schmidt (Ex-Obama White House cyber-security coordinator), Mary Peters (Ex-U.S. Transportation Secretary) and Brad Dee (Utah House of Representatives member).
