History
The institute began as the Kingston Technical Institute in 1899 and was recognized as a Technical College in 1926. In 1951, the first Penrhyn Road campus buildings opened and in 1957, the Ministry of Education recognized Kingston as a Regional College of Technology.
In the year 1970, the College of Technology and the College of Art merged to form Kingston Polytechnic. Finally in 1992, Kingston University acquired its now known name. In the year 1999, the university celebrated 100 years of existence.
