History
Northumbria University started its journey as the Newcastle Polytechnic in the year 1969 and was later formed by the merger of three regional colleges, namely Rutherford College of Technology, the College of Art & Industrial Design, and the Municipal College of Commerce. Initially, the Polytechnic offered Nurse Training. However, it began offering Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Training in 1976. In was the year 1992, when Northumbria University was awarded university status and acquired its now-known name.
