Illinois Institute of Technology History
Based in the Global metropolis of Chicago, Illinois Tech is the only technology-focused university in the city. Illinois Institute of Technology was founded in 1940 as a private research university located in Illinois, Chicago USA. The Chicago Minister had delivered what came to be known as the Million Dollar Sermon in 1890 during advanced education being reserved for society's elite. The Armour Institute later opened in 1853 and offered courses such as Engineering, Chemistry, Architecture, and Library Sciences.
The Illinois Institute of Technology was founded by the merger of Armour Institute and Lewis Institute in 1940 by gaining institute status. The Institute of Design was later established in 1937 which got merged with the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1949. The Kent College of Law at Chicago was founded in 1887 and became a part of the university in 1969 which made Illinois Tech a technology-based university. The Stuart School of Business was founded in 1969 and the Midwest College of Engineering in 1967.
