Kent State University History
Kent State University started its journey in 1910 as a teacher-training school. In honor of William Kent donating his farmland to build the new school, the university was named after him. In Sep 1913, the first full academic year began with 144 students enrolled at the Kent Campus. By the spring semester of 1914, the headcount of students at the Kent Campus reached 1,378.
It was the year 1935 when Gov. Martin L. Davey signed a bill that allowed Kent State to deliver graduate programs and added a School of Business Administration. With the help of this addition, Kent State College became Kent State University.
