Missouri University of Science and Technology History
In 1870, the university started its journey as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (MSM). It was the first technological institution west of the Mississippi, and one of the initial few in the United States. Earlier, the school emphasized the state's mining industry and its immediate technological needs. However, the university started offering courses in fields such as Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, Metallurgy, Mathematics, Physics, and Geology by the end of the 1920s.
In 1964, it was renamed the University of Missouri at Rolla, which was soon changed to the University of Missouri-Rolla. In Jan 2008, the university acquired its now-known name - Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T).
