History
San Jose State University began in 1857 as Minns’ Evening Normal School in San Francisco. In 1862, the school became a state school – the California State Normal School. The state legislature selected San Jose as the new home for the California State Normal School. In 1871, The California State Normal School moved from San Francisco to San Jose. In 1926, the student enrollment passed 2,500. In 1935, the name of the university i.e. San Jose State College came into being, as approved by State Legislature. Finally, in 1974, the current name came into being San Jose State University.
