About University of San Diego
Founded in 1949, the University of San Diego (USD) is a privately funded higher education institute based in San Diego, California.
The institute’s history can be traced back to 1937, when Bishop Charles Buddy took over stewardship of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego. It was granted official charters by the state of California in 1949 when it officially became a recognized institution.
The university is among a small number of institutions to be accredited by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) & the Senior College & University Commission (WSCUC). The WSCUC accreditation has remained valid since 1956.
