History
In 1888, the Agriculture College of Utah was founded. In 1894, the first right students received Business degrees, making Utah State home to the oldest continuously operating business school in the West. In 1950, the institute awarded its first doctoral degree, while 1929 saw the Utah Agricultural College get renamed to Utah State Agricultural College.
In 1957, the Agricultural College was renamed to Utah University. In 1975, this university initiated its Undergraduate Research program. In 2006, the new Merrill-Cazier Library was dedicated and immediately began receiving national recognition. In 2010, in the state’s first-ever merger of two longstanding academic institutions, the College of Eastern Utah joined forces with USU. Then, in 2013, the alumnus of USU Lans Peter Hansen received the 2013 Nobel Prize in Economics.
