History
The history of Federation University Australia goes back to 1870 when it was started as The School of Mines. In general, Fed Uni is the culmination of the former University of Ballarat and Gippsland Campus of Monash University. Then, in 1926, Ballarat Teacher’s College started at Dana Street State School. By 1967, the Ballarat School of Mines had divided into 3 divisions. Then, in 1970, the tertiary division moved to a new campus at Mt. Helen. TAFE studies were offered on the SMB campus and the secondary division moved to a new site. In 2013, the Victorian Parliament passed legislation to establish Federation University Australia.
