Swinburne University of Technology (formerly known as Swinburne Institute of Technical and Further Education) is a public research university in Melbourne, Australia. History
Swinburne University of Technology was founded in 1908. It was founded by the Honorable George and Ethel Swinburne. In the year 1963, Swinburne led the way with one of the first industry-based learning programs and from the 1970s offered degrees in Accounting, Engineering, Chemistry, and Arts. In July 1992, Swinburne gained university status by an Act of Victorian Parliament.
In response to Federal Government reforms in the 1980s, Swinburne University became an inter-sectoral university, providing TAFE education and higher education. The university started operating from the Wantrina Campus and Croydon Campus in 1998. Since 2000, Swinburne has undergone through rapid changes. By continuing the focus on innovation, industry-engagement and high-quality, personalized teaching, the university has secured a position in the Top 400 Universities in the world. In 2019, the Business programs of university achieved accreditation from AACSB International.
