University of Alberta History
The University of Alberta is a public research university known to be one of the oldest universities and is located in Edmonton, Canada. Through the University Act, the University of Alberta was chartered in Edmonton in 1906 as a single and public provincial university. Around 45 students joined the university's first cohort in 1908 out of which seven were female students. The first set of degrees at the University of Alberta were awarded to the students in 1912 and it also established the Department of Extension. The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1913 and the Faculty of Agriculture started in 1915. During 1914-1918, the number of students and staff abroad was more than the number of students who registered in every academic year. By the year 1920, the University of Alberta had six academic faculties such as the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Applied Sciences, Agriculture, Medicine, Dentistry, and Law. The policy of University education was started during the 1960s which responded to the pressure on the population and economic productivity of the individuals.
