University of Alberta History
The University of Alberta is a public research university known to be one of the oldest universities and is located in Edmonton, Canada. Through the University Act, the University of Alberta was chartered in Edmonton in 1906 as a single and public provincial university. Around 45 students joined the university's first cohort in 1908 out of which seven were female students. The first set of degrees at the University of Alberta were awarded to the students in 1912 and it also established the Department of Extension. The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1913 and the Faculty of Agriculture started in 1915.
